There’s a trending topic on Twitter tonight that is #10yearsago. Obviously, we’re on the cusp of a new decade, so it’s human nature to reflect on the past 3650 days. Ten years ago I’d hoped to be where I am today professionally… so I guess I’ve been successful, right? Here’s a nice little list of what I have accomplished/stumbled through over the last decade:
1999 – Got the job that changed my career path (or GAVE me one, to be accurate);
2001 – Filed for divorce (rectifying the biggest mistake of the previous decade);
2003 – Went back to school to complete my degree and met my hubby on Yahoo Personals;
2004 – Had my son, Griffin;
2005 – Got married (see how I mixed up that timeline up?… baby, THEN wedding. I’m impulsive like that);
2006 – Thought I finished my degree… then found out I had ONE MORE CLASS;
2007 – Actually DID finish my degree. BA in English with an emphasis in creative writing;
2008 – Got a job as a fundraiser with a cancer support non-profit agency, and four months later my mother was diagnosed with brain cancer. Seriously weird.
Finally, 2009 – The non-profit I work for struggled through several months of a merger wherein I wasn’t sure I would have a job at the end of it all, my 15 year old daughter decided she wanted to live with her father, and my mother finally succumbed to her cancer diagnosis. It was an incredibly frustrating and depressing year, so I can’t help but think that the next year will be infinitely better in almost every way.
In the next 12 months I will:
See my writing published;
Sell my children’s clothing designs in local boutiques;
Declutter my home and my life; (this is almost bigger than getting published)
Work out at least 2x a week and lose forty pounds;
Be a better doggie mom;
Find some new recipes to cook for dinner; (this will definitely be more difficult than getting published, considering the ridiculously picky family I have)
Build a deck.
Kind of a strange list, I know. But such is my life.
All that and some other stuff...
